One Sunny Day

So, the other day, I had a stupid moment. The kind that is funny when it isn’t about you :)…

I had swapped cars with my best friend and on this very very hot, absolutely ridiculously sunny day, I was in a mad rush.

I got into the car, put the key into the ignition and started it, but the gear refused to engage into drive, I tried and tried and tried but it just didn’t budge. I started to sweat, I was running extremely late and I just couldn’t have this happen to me right then.

I called bestie. “I can’t engage the gear…something must be wrong, I’m running super late, so I’m going to leave the car and uber to my meeting”

Bestie asked one question..the question that brought my stupid moment to the fore almost immediately “is your foot on the brake pedal?”. I looked down and guess what? yep!…you guessed right.

My foot was not on it and believe me when I say I had almost shifted the gear out of its place trying to force it to ‘D’!! lol!

How did I miss that? I have been driving for over 10 years and this has never happened to me!

This was not without its lessons for me;

– Sometimes, when you’re in a hurry or under pressure, you miss the tiny detail that should help you make progress.

– Sometimes, someone else sees it but you don’t, because you’re too close to the situation.

– Sometimes, all you really have to do is take a step back, take a deep breath and listen to the people God has put around you.

– Years of experience doesn’t make you superhuman, you can still make mistakes.
