An Ode to good friends

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For, if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up”. Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 10

Sometimes, you’re afraid to take the first step, to make the first move in exhibiting what God has placed on your inside that is struggling to show. It is for times like these that good friends exist…

People that would fight just to make sure you don’t give up on you, on your dreams.

People that point out your strengths, including those you’ve never quite been aware of. When you succeed, they rejoice with you, they never feel threatened by your  success because they want the best for you. They point out your weaknesses, not to judge, or to belittle, but to help you work on them. People that can tell you the truth even when it hurts or when they’re not sure you’re even listening.

These are the people God desires for us to have as friends, as through their willingness to poke their noses in our businesses, they help us maximize what God has placed in us.

An Ode to all Good Friends

Thank you for all the good times and even the bad times,

For being there for me and standing by me.

Thank you for every time you didn’t let me give up on me,

For making sure I came out on top each one of those times.

Thank you for all the smiles you’ve put on my face,

For all the times my sides ached from laughing so hard.

I appreciate the many times you’ve called just to check up on me

And all the times you just let me talk when I was feeling bad.

Thank you for not being afraid to shout at me sometimes,

Helping me realize I can do much more than I think I can.

Thank you for those times you helped me see reason,

When I stubbornly held on to my unreasonable opinions.

For all those times that you risked hurting my feelings,

Just so I could see the truth as it was, I want to say thank you.

Thank you for the part you have played in teaching me life’s lessons.

As you go along in your own life, may you always have at least one person to call a good friend…because we all need them!

  1. Great write up.
Though sounds like some parting shots.
Good friends are actually hard to come by but when we find one, we should let them know and always find time to appreciate their inputs in our lives.
Some friends end up sticking closer than siblings.
